About the Position

SKA SA is currently seeking to appoint a Compute Infrastructure Group Lead to join our Cape Town based team. The successful incumbent will plan, organise, direct and control the activities of the Compute Infrastructure Group.

Minimum education requirement:

  • MSc or equivalent professional qualification

Minimum work experience required:

  • 10+ years' experience at management within similar environment

Or

  • Substantial experience and proven success within a software/hardware environment

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Oversee the staffing and establishment of the Compute Infrastructure group
  • Overall coordination of the activities of the group
  • Line management of all staff within the Compute Infrastructure group (both technical and support staff)
  • Setup and management of external stakeholder relationships with both local and international partners
  • Setting of long term strategic direction in consultation with other business stakeholders
  • Together with the Security Lead, develop and promulgate IT security policies across the science and business units
  • Reporting to the project directory on critical infrastructure aspects, particularly security
  • Provide strategy and assistance with design, specification and procurement of computing infrastructure for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing support and infrastructure to other business units in the form of SLA backed agreements
  • Ensure coordination and direction of individual technical leads within the group
  • Consulting with and informing other managers on progress
  • Coordinating the implementation of occupational health and safety requirements
  • Determine, implement and monitor teams contribution to overall project progress
  • Establishing and managing budgets, monitoring progress and adjusting processes and resources to minimize costs and suppliers
  • Research and implement regulatory and statutory requirements affecting manufacturing operations and the environment
  • Conduct research and improving or developing concepts, theories, instrumentation, software and operational methods related to high performance computing infrastructure
