About the Position

The National Research Foundation (NRF) supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the provision of National Research Facilities and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of science and technology, including natural science , engineering, social science and humanities.

The Reviews and Evaluations (RE) Directorate is responsible for managing reviews of grant applications, programme evaluations and the evaluations and rating of individuals. The RE role of assuring quality and promoting excellence in grants and individual ratings awarded is in line with one of the NRFs strategic goals of a world class benchmarking and grant system.

The RE directorate seek to appoint a suitably qualified individual to occupy a Professional Officer position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, identification and adaptation, and implementation of business process , documents and systems;
  • Assist in the on-going maintenance, improvement and management of business process and systems
  • Plan ; coordinate and organise panel meetings
  • Identify and invite reviewers and panellist for RE reviews
  • Assist in the validation of outcomes of the technical screening of the applications for reviews
  • Provide accurate and timely information and data for periodic reports
  • Compile recommendations of the Review Panel members
  • Follow up on the recommendations of the Review Panel members
  • Report on RE activities and outcomes
  • Participate in institutional visitation to address review challenges
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

Key Requirements:

  • A post graduate degree or equivalent in the Natural Sciences, Engineering or Social Sciences and/or Humanities. A Masters degree will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in research management or research
  • Experience in the management of [peer] review process will be an added advantage
  • Project management skills are essential
  • Computer literacy including MS Office Suite
  • Strong business and professional writing and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and client relations management skills
  • Result oriented, logical, and systematic approach to planning and organizing
  • An understanding of the Higher Education landscape
