About the Position

Main Purpose of Job:

The Electronic Engineer will design and maintain embedded control systems, motion control systems and safety interlock systems of the particle accelerators at iThemba LABS.

Minimum requirements:

  • BEng. Electronic Engineering
  • MSc.Eng. will be an added advantage
  • 3 years' experience in the design of instrumentation and controls systems with exposure to the following:

PCB layout
GUI Design
Control systems design
Embedded software design
Hardware design skills
Programming in 'C' and Linux
Experience in interfacing of electronics
Experience in maintenance of electronic systems

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Design of instrumentation and control systems for particle accelerators
  • Interfacing of electronic systems
  • Maintenance of accelerator and other electronic systems
  • Interacting with users to identify and solve problems
  • Planning and initiating a detailed design
  • Coordinating the assembling, installation, testing and commissioning of projects
  • Writing up specification of programs
  • Oversee and assist with the fault repairs during operation
  • Training users to use software and operating equipment
  • Training of students
  • Standby duties and overtime work as and when required

The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:

Ability

  • Design of control systems

  • Stong mechanical aptitude
  • Programming in 'C' & Linux

Experience

  • Maintenance of electronics systems
