About the Position

SARAO has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) Technician to join our Cape Town based team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the operation of SARAO RFI test facilities in Cape Town, the Karoo, vehicle measurement systems and contracted RFI/EMC test services.

Minimum education requirements:

  • National Diploma or Equivalent in Electronic Engineering with a focus in Radio Frequency (RF)

Minimum work experience required:

  • 7 to 10 years' experience working with Radio Frequency and EMC, and development and support environments

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Assist the Senior RFI Engineer with the development of RFI monitoring systems for deployment in the Karoo
  • Assist internal and external stakeholders in the identification of RFI sources and mitigation thereof
  • Conducting calibration test procedures
  • Conducting corrective maintenance appropriately scheduled periods
  • Manage the RFI laboratories and ensure it is appropriately equipped
  • Train and mentor young professionals and operators assigned to the test facility
