About the Position

Purpose

IT System Support Technician will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Laboratories Computer Systems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three (3) year post-matric technical diploma in Information Technology
  • 2 years technical experience ( hardware and software) and
  • 1 - 2 years in a customer service environment

Skills and Attributes:

  • Practical experience with, and working knowledge of, computer hardware and software
  • Experience and knowledge of computer networking principles and techniques, including configuration and maintenance of network hubs and switches, cabling and wireless networks
  • Helpdesk knowledge and experience dealing with customers; understanding how to deliver clear and effective IT support services

The following experience will be an advantage:

  • MSCA, Linux+, Network+

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical and troubleshooting assistance related to computer hardware, software and network devices.
  • Perform other necessary administration tasks (user account maintenance, logging tickets)
  • Install, test and configure new workstations, network devices, peripheral equipment and software
  • Provide helpdesk support and resolve problems to the end user's satisfaction
  • Monitor and respond quickly and effectively to requests received through the IT helpdesk and when necessary, escalating it to the appropriate support groups
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop security
  • Follow up on outstanding requests and ensure timely resolution
  • Undertake other duties not specifically stated which from time to time are necessary without altering the nature or level of responsibility
